For project two, I've invested time on topic related to areas of both music and technology. The reason for looking at either of these two topics is that technology is something that everyone take for granted, but it is important to realize that it can be abused in many areas. By using technology to create music, one can generate a plethora of which would include the advantage and disadvantages in the creation of this type of music as well as the analysis of looking at using technology in modern pop music. For investigating this topic, analyzing primary and secondary sources are required in order to have data that would be considered to be significant.. Through primary research, musicians of older, more traditional and modern musicians would be analyzed. In addition to that, music preference were also taken into consideration. Through secondary research, examination of trending diagrams in databases for musicians for both traditional music as well as music with technology. When investigating this topic, it is also crucial to know that almost all of the music nowadays incorporates technological effects and that it would be difficult to acquire information on music that are considered “natural”.
After doing some background research on these topics, the following research question is produced:
To what extent has the implementation of technology, new and old, altered music?
Because this topic is too broad to explain in a couple of pages, the bulk of the research was focused on three main ideas:
Analyze Chiptunes, or computer generated music, and draw similarities between Chiptunes and experimental, rebellious music of the 20th century genre.
looking at structure and style of the music.
Look at auto-tuning in modern music and traditionally recording music and draw comparison between the two in terms of popularity, structure, and complexity.
Scrutinize the meaning of modern and older music and look into the metamorphosis of the meaning of music from the change of technology and culture.
